Hi,
Welcome to the SBS newsgroup. Sorry for my wrong reply, sorry for any delay.
According to your description, I understand that you want to know why the
windows only show 3.25 GB while you have 4 GB installed on the SBS 2003
server.
In fact, your SBS server are using 4GB memory and the issue is that system
does not show the correct data. To show the exact memory usage by the SBS
system, you could run the following command in the command line and it will
tell you the exact data of your memory.
WMIC path Win32_PhysicalMemory get Capacity
If you have 1GB memory installed in each of the 4 dimms, the result would
be as following
C:\>WMIC path Win32_PhysicalMemory get Capacity
Capacity Capacity Capacity Capacity
1073741824 1073741824 1073741824 1073741824
In addition, Some Compaq (HP) servers, less than the amount of installed
physical RAM will be displayed in the operating system. According to
Compaq, features related to the configuration of PCI Hot Plug devices can
reduce the amount of physical memory available for the OS and customer
applications by approximately 0.5 to 1GB.
However you can turn on physical address extension (PAE) support on your
SBS server to make your SBS "system properties" show the correct data. To
do this, add the /PAE parameter in your boot.ini file.
I suggest you to create a boot.ini for multi-boot system to test the
different parameter. In case, there is any unexpected issue, you could use
default parameter to boot your computer up. Please also backup your SBS
server before change the boot.ini file.

I would like to give you a sample of boot.ini file.
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows Server 2003 for Small
Business Server Default Boot" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows Server 2003 for Small
Business Server /3GB /PAE Test" /3GB /PAE
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows Server 2003 for Small
Business Server /PAE Test" /PAE
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows Server 2003 for Small
Business Server /3GB /Userva=3900 Test" /3GB /Userva=3900
I am sorry for any inconvenience. Hope the above information help you
understand the issue more clear, if you have any further concerns, please
let me know. I am glad to be any further updates.
Best regards,
Charles Yang (MSFT)
