Hello Ameet,
Thank you for posting to the SBS Newsgroup.
>From your description, I understand that you want to know how to exclude a
laptop from the My Document Folder Redirection Group Policy, and will new
settings be renewed when you set up VPN to Server. If I have misunderstood
your concern, please let me know.
If you want your new settings to be renewed,
a) If you only want My Document settings to be renewed, you need to check
the box "Log on using dial-up connection" before you log on the domain.
b) If you want all the settings to be renewed, you need to bring the remote
pc back to your domain and all the Computer and User Configuration settings
will be applied.
To redirect My Document folder back to local location, please see my
following steps:
1. On the server, go to Server Management\Advanced Management\Group Policy
Management\Forest\Domain\Yourdomain.local\MyBusiness\Users.
2. Right click SBSUsers, select New Organization Unit, you can name this OU
as Test. Click OK.
3. Go to Server Management\Advanced Management\Active Directory Users and
Computers\Yourdomain.local\MyBusiness\Users\SBSUsers.
4. Move your account from SBSUsers folder to Test Folder.
5. Go back to Server Management\Advanced Management\Group Policy
Management\Forest\Domain\Yourdomain.local\Group Policy Objects.
6. Right click Group Policy Objects, create a new GPO, you can name the new
GPO is TestA.
7. Right click the New GPO TestA, click Edit.
8. In the Group Policy Object Editor, expand to TestA\User
Configuration\Windows Settins\Folder Redirection\My Documents.
9. Right click My Documents, select Properties. On the Target tab, select
the Setting is Basic. Target folder location is "Redirect to the local
userprofile location".
10. On the Settings tab, click the two boxes, select the Leave the folder
in the new location when the policy is removed.
11. Click Apply and OK.
12. On the server, run "gpupdate" (without quotation marks).
13. Next time when you log off and log on the PC, the group policy will be
applied.
Hope this information helps. If anything is unclear, please feel free to
let me know. I am looking forward to hearing from you!
Best regards,
Brandy Nee
