We have a circumstance where we are dealing with a large number of image
files (close to 1 million) actually several directories each. We were
transferring them across our network to a machine with an external USB drive.
The server a Win2003 SBS server with a RAID attached to a Windows XP Pro SP2
et al.
There are several KB articles on NT 4.0
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;236964
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/w2kmsgs/976.asp
and there are other referring to Win2K HotFixes. But the problem seems to
be in Win2003 Server as well. (we had copy running to three different
machines that failed simultaneously) I found an article referring to a
problem with an API call CopyFileEx() so I wrote an app that "manually"
copied the files (open/read/write/etc).
