Hello Mike,
Thank you for posting to the SBS Newsgroup.
I understand that you want to join two member servers in SBS 2K3 domain,
and you want to know how to configure these two member servers. If I have
misunderstood your concern, please let me know.
Please read the following documents and strictly follow the steps to join
member servers into SBS 2K3 domain:
Deploying Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server to Host User Desktops in a
Windows Small Business Server 2003 Environment
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/sbs/2003/deploy/adstrmsr.mspx
327644 How to configure licensing on an additional Windows server in an SBS
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=327644
The following two whitepapers are discussing it with SBS 2000, but the same
general principals apply to SBS 2K3. Keep in mind that the SBS server must
hold all the FSMO roles.
Connecting a Remote Office to a Small Business Server 2000 Network
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/prodtechn
ol/sbs/2000/maintain/remotofc.asp
Adding a Server to Your Small Business Server 2000 Network
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/prodtechn
ol/sbs/2000/maintain/addsrvrs.asp
As you mentioned you use T1 to connect these two member servers, you need
to install two routers in front of them. The network diagram should be like
this:
Internet <-> SBS 2K3 Server <->Clients1<-> Router1 <-> T1 <-> Router2 <->
Clients2
a) If you have two NICs installed on SBS 2K3 server, you need to add static
route on the client1 workstations and the SBS 2K3 server to route traffic
to client2. Because clients1 use the gateway on SBS 2K3 server, they cannot
connect to Client2, only Clients2 can connect them.
You need to run the following script on SBS server and client1
workstations:
Route add "Client2 IP address" mask 255.255.255.0 "route1 IP address"
b) If you only have one NIC installed on SBS 2K3 server, you need to add
static route on clients' workstations.
Hope this information helps. If you have any further questions or concerns
on this issue, please feel free to let me know. I am looking forward to
hearing from you!
Best regards,
Brandy Nee
