Hi Markus,
Thank you for the post.
>From the description, I understand that your issue is that you can not
install the Windows 2003 SP1 and got the following error. If I'm off base,
please let me know.
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Windows SharePoint Services 2.0
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1000
Date: 25/03/2004
Time: 21:49:01
User: N/A
Computer: SERVER
Description:
#50070: Unable to connect to the database STS_Config on SERVER\SharePoint.
Check the database connection information and make sure that the database
server is running.
As for your scenario, I would like to collect the following information
first:
1. What is the version of the SBS server? Have you updated the sharepoint
instance to the SQL instance?
2. In the service console, check if the MSSQL$SHAREPOINT service is
started. If not, make sure the start type of this service is automatic,
then try to start the service, see how things go from there.
3. Please check the following log files to see if any error occurs during
installing the windows 2003 SP1:
\Program Files\Microsoft Integration\Microsoft Small Business Server
2003\Logs
¡¤ Errorlog.txt
¡¤ Eventlog.txt
¡¤ Setup.log
¡¤ MSI Logs
Please also check the file C:\Windows\svcpack.log.
4. When you access the companyweb, will you get any error message?
5. Please also check the monitoring site. Open ''Server management'', click
''Monitoring and Reporting'' in the left panel. Can you see the monitoring
page in the right panel?
Meanwhile, some customers report the same problem. After they installed the
Backup Exec 9.1, their SharePoint site could fail. Even uninstall the
Backup Exec program, Companyweb still fails to load. This may be due to the
fact that Backup Exec makes some changes to SQL instances which may
conflict with the SBS original settings.
For the Companyweb site, I would like to suggest you completely reinstall
the SharePoint site components of SBS 2003. Please refer to the following
KB article for the detailed steps to reinstall the SharePoint site in SBS
2003.

2003 SharePoint Services Companyweb Web site

As for the WSS service pack, you can check the files version to see if the
SP has been installed. For detail information, you can refer to the
following information:

If you encounter any difficulties or have any concerns, feel free to let me
know. I look forward to your update.
