NIC issue on 2003 SBS

I manage a Windows 2003 SBS server for a company and recently tried to
install l scsi card, when the system "crashed" What happened was that after
install of the card the system would not boot to the logon prompt it would
hang on the configuring network for a long time then hang at the applying
computer settings window indefinetly. I waited as long as 45 minutes. When
going into safe mode the system would reboot just as it reached the logon
prompt before pressing control-alt-del. There were no link or activity
lights on the nic. I removed the installed SCSI card and the same behavior
continued. After discussing the situation with Dell support they determined
the NIC to be bad and dispatched another MB. In the meantime I called MS
support and they were able to get me back into windows desktop through
directory services restore mode. At this point I was able to go into network
connections and configure the nic and it began to work however when clicking
OK to exit the tcp/ip properties dialogue I receive the following message for
each IP address I have configured for that nic.
The IP address 192.168.1.109 you have entered for this network adapter is
already assigned to another adapter ‘Intel® Pro/1000 XT Connection #2.
‘Intel® Pro/1000 XT Network Connection#2 is hidden from the Network
Connections folder because it is not physically in the computer. If the same
address is assigned to both adapters and they both become active, only one of
them will use this address. This may result in incorrect system
configuration.
Do you want to enter a different IP address for this adapter in the list of
IP addresses in the Advanced dialog box?
Which I answer no to and then everything works.
This message comes up everytime I go into the tcpip properties for that
connection, which by the way is local area connection #2, the one the message
says is hidden. There is only one NIC in this server and never has there
benn more than that. It is an integrated nic on a Dell Poweredge 2600.
Sorry so wordy
Any ideas as to what is causing this and can it be fixed? Just thought I
would through this out there for any hardcore geeks like me working this
weekend, as I won't be able to resume my support cal until Tuesday.
Thanks
TC
