Re: MS Word files open in read-only mode when accessing them from SBS

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Hi SC,

Thanks for posting here.

For your description, I understand that some files created by Word 2003
only be opened with read-only mode. If I am off base, please don't hesitate
to let me know.

1. To resolve the issue, please first ensure the shared folders placed
those files set the appropriate security and share permissions for users.
Please follow the steps to check:

a. In Server management console, click Shares(local) node, find the shared
folder in detailed list and right click it, then click Properties.

b. Click share permissions tab, add domain users in the list and set write
permissions for domain users.

c. Click Security tab, ensure domain users group has write permissions, if
not, you can click Advance button to add domain users group and set write
permission for it.

2. Please ensure those files set the appropriate security permissions for
users.

Right click the file, click Properties. In Security page, ensure domain
users have write permission. If not, you can click Advanced button to add
users and set write permissions for them.

3. Ensure those files and folders placed those files don't set the
read-only mode. Please follow the steps to check:

Right click the file or folder, click Properties. In General page, uncheck
Read-only box in Attributes.

If it is not the problem, please help me collect some information to
isolate the issue.

1. Do only some files created by Word open with read-only mode? How about
..txt or other types?

2. Does the issue happen in those specified files? Does it happen all the
time or some time?

3. When did the issue happen? Only opened one file or after opened two more
files

4. How users access those files? In LAN, Internet or by VPN?

5. Can you give me your screen picture related the issue? Please add
pictures into a zip file and mail to v-yanniw@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I am currently standing by for an update from you and would like to know
how things are going on your end. I look forward to you!

Have a nice weekend!

Best Regards,
