you dont need any linux skills as of about 6 months ago.

asterisk@home is a single iso cd that automatically installs and you can
then setup your requirements using the graphical interface.(dont be kidded
by the name - this can run a 200+ employee company out of the box).

To be honest I dont know why anyone is considering any of the
Cisco/Nortel/Avaya ip-pbx solutions.
