Re: Dell vs. SuperMicro: Reliabilty and parts availability

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

One thing I can tell you about Dell is that they only promise to have server
parts for 5 years. I've got a PE 2400 that's turning 5 this month, and they
won't let me renew the support on it at any cost. After running flawlessly
for four years, this server had a hard drive and backplane fail within the
last 6 months, so they're probably not wrong.

I have 24x7 on my PE 2500 and 2600, and I've never had a part take over 4
hours unless I wanted it to (such as did not want to replace a failed drive
on a Sunday). That includes several weekend parts failures, including a
motherboard and raid controller at 9 PM on a Saturday.
