RE: w3wp Memory Usage

Hi John,

Thank you for posting in SBS newsgroup.

If you want to know which ID is related to which process, you may find the
ID as following:

1. Open Task Manager.
2. Click View menu and select Select Columns.
3. Check PID and click OK.

If you want to know which application pool has been invoked, you can type
the iisapp.vbs in command line; it will display all the application pool
which is invoked.

Regarding memory space question, based on my experience, the 60 Mb space is
normal behavior if it does not keep on increasing wildly in short time.
Otherwise please post back.

If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Best regards,

Crina Li (MSFT)

| Hello All....I have a question regarding w3wp and memory usage. I have a
SBS
| 2003 box with 8 clients and no external usage of the sharepoint or OWA
sites.
| In fact, I have deployed Sharepoint, Default website and OWA, but
currently
| I am the only person that ever uses it until I roll it out to the
| organization.
|
| With basically no usage, I am showing w3wp in my Server Performance
| Report under the top 5 processes by memory usage.
|
| Instance 1 - ID# 884 (117 MB)
| Instance 2 - ID# 9856 (60 MB)
|
| When I run IISApp to see what ID correlates to what app, I find the
following:
|
| 3416 - ExchangeApplicationPool
| 9856 - DefaultAppPool
|
| So, my questions are:
|
| 1. What is Instance 884 that is consuming 117MB? I have other App
Pools,
| but how do I find out there ID?
| 2. With no activity to speak of yet on the Default website with the
| exception of SUS updates, is 60MB reasonable for memory space?
|
| Any advice would be appreciated.
|
| Cheers,
|
