Setup is; Dell 600SC, 1 gig ram, SBS 2003 standard w 2 NIC's. It's an OEM install that I had to reinstall last year when it was delivered. I did the reinstall with the help of Dell tech support. Well, it seems I didn't install or set up the RAID so I'm apparently just running on one of the drives. The drive I can see in the disk manager has not been converted to dynamic; it's still a basic disk. The device manager shows the RAID card as a Dell CERC ATA 100/4ch RAID controller but, the box shipped with an LSI Logic ATA 100/4ch controller. The drives are 120 gig ATA each.
Question is, where do I start to get the RAID on line and working? The box backs up to an external hard drive in a USB enclosure each night, about 13 gigs worth. This is a production server and I have yet to install Sp1 but would feel more comfortable having the RAID up and running before I take on the Sp1 install.
Hi Bob,
Chances are that the RAID is already setup and working. Dell uses hardware RAID controllers, so the Windows Disk Manager console can only see a single disk.
LSI are (the only?|one of the?) manufacturer(s?) that produce Dell's hardware RAID cards (they just rebadge existing ones), so that's not a problem.
If you look in Device Manager under Disk Drives, how many devices are listed?
Also, have you contacted Dell about this? They should be able to help you out.
Many thanks,
Mark Lidstone .
