One reason is the interface - you get a nice list of success and failure messages plus some alerting features which are nice for users.
Some of my clients like to see this list and at a glance see what was missed and when. Yes - its rediculous that the built in stuff doesn't have this (maybe there is a freware front end for it somewhere); Backup Exec is a complete waste of money for what it actually does - little more than the built in stuff.
e.g. the standard SBE edition of BEX does not allow the use of the VSS despite it being standard on all 2003 boxes - unless you buy the Veritas Open File Module to enable the built in service that you already have!? Mad.

IMHO there is no need for any third party Backup software for SBS. The built in software is all you need. In Enterprise large storage environments I can see a need but in SBS a Total backup every night with an Exchange aware package is what is needed.
