email probs with my 1st SBS setup (beginner)

Our SBS 2003 server is setup. We're not using Exchange for email yet. We
have 2 users that have multiple email accounts in Outlook 2003
(user1@xxxxxxxxxxxxx, user2@xxxxxxxxxxxxx, etc.). For one user, no matter
where he logs in he sees all of his emails SBCGLOBAL emails. It seems to
synchronize with Exchange? The other user doesn't see all of his email. He
sees thru 5/29/05. That's when I deleted the Exchange account from the
email account list in Outlook. I later added it back but still only get
thru 5/29/05. I really need to get this user setup to perform the same
synch. Any ideas?

Also, we want to be able to access our SBS server from home. Do I setup a
VPN from SBS 2003 or from our router (Symantec).
