RE: Remote Web Workplace Printing with Multifunction

Hello Kelly,

Thank you for posting to the SBS Newsgroup.

>From your description, I guess your concern is using remote desktop to
access your Windows XP computer desktop to install two printers HP PSC 1210
and HP PSC 2170, but SBS 2K3 server cannot detect them. If I have
misunderstood your issue, please let me know.

To be able to print to local printers from a remote computer, we should
install the printer driver using the following steps:

1. Make sure these printers work compatible with Windows XP and HP's
printer driver you have downloaded also works compatible with Windows XP.
You can check in the following website:

Windows Catalog:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/catalog/

2. Normally, multifunction print driver uses DOT4 port to gain the
multifunction capabilities, but by default, multifunction print devices may
not be redirected unless you are running Windows Server 2003 on your local
computer because they use DOT4 ports.

For detailed information, please see:

302361 Printers That Use Ports That Do Not Begin With COM, LPT, or USB Are
Not
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=302361

3. When you login RWW, click connect to your office computer, click
Optional Settings, make sure that you have checked the box Enable documents
on the remote computer to be printed on a local printer. When log on to the
office XP computer, download and install the printer driver. If the printer
does work with Window XP, the printer driver should detect the printer
which is redirected to the office computer.

Hope this information helps. If you have any questions or concerns on this
issue, please let me know. I am glad to be of assistance.

Best regards,

Brandy Nee
