RE: Web server/Lan setup help

Hi Gary,

Thanks for using the SBS newsgroup.

According to your description, I understand that you want to implement a
web based media server on SBS domain. If I misunderstood your concerns,
please let me know.

Before we go any further, please understand that the stream media protocol
would also be involved. I suggest you check which specific protocol that
the software is using and publish the stream media ports for the
application. So please also contact with the third part software vendor for
further assistance.

Generally speaking, we can either host the website on the XP workstation or
use SBS to host the web sites.

It your best interest to create a new web site and host the pages on the
new site. You can refer to the following document to see how to create a
new web site on IIS and publish it via IIS:

Information

Please also make sure that you configure the right host header for this
website, if you host many websites on IIS, you can refer to the following
documents for more detailed information:
324287 HOW TO: Use Host Header Names to Configure Multiple Web Sites in
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=324287

After creating the website, if you have ISA installed on your SBS, you can
also publish the website through ISA, you can use the web publishing rules
in ISA, please refer to the following KB article for more detailed
information:

292569 How to set up Internet Security and Acceleration Server to host Web
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=292569

300435 HOW TO: Securely Publish Multiple Web Sites by Using ISA Server in
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=300435

If you do not have ISA installed on SBS, you need to configure the router
for website publishing.

1. If you host the website on Windows XP workstation, you need to use
DMZ to publish the website.
2. If you host the website on SBS server, you need to open proper
port to publish the website.

I appreciate your understanding on this issue. Hope the above information
helpful. If you have any further concerns, please let me know. I am here
waiting for your updates.

Best regards,

Charles Yang (MSFT)
