Outlook /exchange cant log in after password change Perhaps Local Workgroup settings remaining from non AD environment

The boss tried to change his password on his non-admin account, we are not
sure what he did before he asked how? but he may have used his admin account
and may have used the server management tool (I don't think so) and may have
changed his local pw. We told him to use CTRL ALT DEL and change pw.
Now a short while after he logs in (XP/SP2 client) he gets a login box
'Connect to servername.domainname.local', the displayed username is
servername\user rather than Domainname\user. No matter what we put in this
box it doesn't authorize.the logon box keeps coming back , it is apparently
related to outlook/exchange logon.
We can go to another XP client in the domain and
My customer was running W2000 Server (factory installed) on a Dell 1400SC
It apparently was configured as a DC.
At some point they had a system problem and an reinstalled W2000 server
but didn't set up the AD. They then started using workgroup sharing where
User names and pw's were defined (and had to match) on both the server and
client. They also were sharing some printers and files on clients. This led
to an awful mess with permission problems..
We than installed SBS2003 Premium (bot not using premium features) and SP1.
Our primary focus is to use file and printer sharing, active domain and
later Exchange.
We have changed the known client network hard drive shares to Shared Full
Permission everybody and used the NTFS security tab for access to these
shares based on domain group membership.
Once my workstations have joined the domain what can/should I do with the
workgroup settings . This would include local accounts Can I get rid of all
local accounts except an administrator or is it the administrator).
What assocation (if any does the old local name/pw have to do with the
domain names/pw.
What about shares that where set up (hard drive and printer). are they all
converted automatically to the domain?
