Thanks for your update.

What is the result if you disabled the anti-virus software?

Meanwhile, since the issue does not happen if you backup to local disc and
then perform the restore, the issue probably be caused by the tape drive
and the tape media, so, I would like to suggest that you change the tape
and change the IBM tape drive and then see if there is any change.

Further more, for the test purpose, please only backup one file (for
example a word file) to the tape drive, delete it from local hard disc and
then restore it from the backup, check if the NTbackup hangs.

Also, please post the follow log file in the newsgroup as attachment:

The Backupxx.log files, they are in the folder 'C:\Documents and
Settings\SBS Backup User\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows
NT\NTBackup\data'.

The Sbsbackuplog0x.log files, they can be located under the folder
'%sbsprogramdir%\Support\Backup Logs'.
(%sbsprogramdir% = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server)

As for the error while verifying, are there any event logs related to it?
And also, does the error occur if you backup to the local disc?
