Hello Anze,
Thank you for posting in the SBS newsgroup.
According to your description, I understand that the NTBackup hangs when
the Volume Shadow Copy service starts, this issue occurs after you
installed UPHClean. If I have misunderstood your concern, please don't
hesitate to let me know.
Based on my research, to troubleshoot this issue, please perform the
following steps:
1. If the NTBackup process hangs in "Preparing to backup using shadow
copy", please go to following key:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Currentversion\Winlogon\
If there is a key as LeakTrack, make sure that it is set to 0. If it is not
0, set it to 0, restart the computer and check again.
2. Click Start -> Run, type following command:
regsvr32 msxml.dll
regsvr32 msxml3.dll
regsvr32 msxml4.dll
3. Otherwise, I suggest you refer to the information in below article and
install the appropriate hotfix:
833167 A Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) update package is available for
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=833167
4. If the issue persists, please try to uninstall the UPHClean software,
then try again. Please check if the issue be re-produced.
If the issue still persists, please help me collect the following
information for further troubleshooting:
1. Please locate the NTBackup log from %System Drive%\Documents and
Settings\SBS Backup User\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows
NT\Backup\data fold, and check whether there are any error messages noted
on this issue, then paste the full context in your reply.
2. Go to command prompt, type "vssadmin list writers >c:\vssadmin.txt" and
run it. Then paste the full context in the vssadmin.txt in your reply.
3. Refer to following article to enable the VSS tracing log, then paste
the full context in the VSS tracing log in your reply.
887013 How to enable the Volume Shadow Copy service's debug tracing
features in
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=887013
I'm looking forward to your update. If you have any questions or concerns,
please do not hesitate to let me know. I am always happy to be of further
assistance.
Best regards,
Nathan Liu (MSFT)
