Another day, another useless error dialog (subtitled the connection wizard fails after ISA 2004 install)

Installed SP1 about a week ago, was now game enough to install ISA from the
CD. ISA 2000 and the secure web site were working correctly prior to the
upgrade.
The installation appears to have worked (ISA is up and running) but the
configuration wizard fails at the firewall configuration and the secure web
site configuration.
The ever helpful dialog box information is "An error occurred while
configuring a component" "Click ok to continue ..."
So informative !
The relevant part of the log (just as well I knew where to look) is shown
below. Any suggestions appreciated.

installation routines and their error messages greatly appreciated. :-)
