RE: VPN issues different for 2 users

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Hi Jared,

Thank you for posting in SBS newsgroup.

Regarding the first user, would you please help to check the following on
that client?

1. Run ''gpedit.msc'' to bring up the ''Group Policy'' console.

2. Expand Local Computer Policy --> Computer Configuration --> Windows
Settings --> Secruity Settings --> Local Policies --> Security Options

3. In the right pane, check the policy ''LAN MANAGER AUTHENTICATION LEVEL''
to make sure it is set to "send LM and NTLM responses."

4. Restart the System to take effect.

If the problem still persists, please confirm other VPN client can use the
same user credential to access the server.

configuration on the SBS 2003, please refer to the following KB article:

Regarding the second user, does the user receive any errors when he opens
the mapped drives? As I know, it is a by design behavior. Please try the
steps of the following KB article:

Hope the information help and I look forward to your reply.

| i have 2 users on our new SBS 2003 Premium network that just tried to
| connect at home (same house / same line) using the Shortcut to Connect
| to Small Business Server icon...
|
| - Both are in the Mobile Users group
| - Both have "Control acess through Access Policy" in the Dial-In tab
| under User Properties
| - Under the Small Busines Remote Access Policy > properties (which is
| first under Routing and Remote Access > Remote Access Policies, by the
| way) it has "Windows-Groups matches "PLS2\SBS Mobile Users" - Grant
| Remote Access Permission
|
| all of this is how it should be to my understanding
|
|
| So, first user tries to connect and gets the message "Your credentials
| have failed remote network authentication". He is using his correct
| username/password. When i had him try with the Administrator
| Username/Password (he is the company owner and my brother, so i felt i
| could trust him...plus my password is 18 characters long, so i doubt
| he memorized it :-) - he was able to connect. But, not under his
| username/password.
|
| The second user was able to connect no problem, but right after he
| connected he tried the mapped drives and wasn't able to open any.
|
| any suggestions?
|
