RE: Printing from Win9x clients stops

Hello Dave,

Thank you for your update.

According to your description, I understand that you have tried my
suggestions, but you received a message "slow network transfers" now. If I
have misunderstood your concern, please don't hesitate to let me know.

First of all, please help me re-confirm whether you can access the shard
printer on the windows 9x workstations.

If the windows 9x clients cannot use the SBS Server shared printer yet, we
will first focus this issue, please help me try to perform the following
steps:

1. Please check whether the shared printer was installed windows 9x
driver. Go to the shared printer Properties on the SBS Server, choose
Sharing and click Additional Drivers, select and install the windows 9x
driver.

2. Please verify that everyone has the permission to print, add the
everyone group to the shared printer security permission.

3. Please verify that after sharing the printer, other clients can see
the printer -- net view \\computername.

4. Please check the domain controller local security settings -- "access
this computer from the network" -- options. Please perform the following
steps:

a. Open Server Management Console, expand Advanced Management ->
Group Policy Management -> DomainName.local -> Group Policy Objects

b. Right-click Default Domain Controllers Policy and select Edit.

c. Open the Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security
Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment folder.

d. Locate the Access this computer from the network, and double
click to launch it Properties, then add the following groups:

- Administrators
- Authenticated Users
- Enterprise domain controllers
- Everyone
- IUSR_servername
- IWAM_servername
- Pre-Windows 2000 Compatible Access

5. If the issue persists, what time the issue began to occur? As you
mentioned, when you install aTrust Gateway and Pest Patrol software and
reboot the server, the issue begins to occur. If so, please try to contact
the third-party software vendor and make sure this software does not
interfere with SBS Server. Otherwise, you can try to temporarily uninstall
the software, can the issue be re-produced?

If the windows 9x clients can use the SBS Server shared printer, but you
received a message "slow network transfers" now. To narrow down this issue,
please help me collect the following information:

1. Where did you see the message "slow network transfers"?

2. What are the exact problem symptoms on the problematic workstation?

I appreciate your taking the time to perform the tests, I'm looking forward
to your update. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not
hesitate to let me know. I am always happy to be of further assistance.

Best regards,

Nathan Liu (MSFT)
