Susan,
"issues with your box"
I agree, that's why I built a clean SBS with SP1. I only upgraded the old
system to test Trend Micro.
"Is that protector supported?"
V2i Protector (drive image for servers) may not be supported now. A number
of my applications are being broken by updates and security fixes. Soon my
system will be totally secure and I will be out of business as none of my
application software will run on it any more.
"separate partition"
I always have a separate OS partition on my computers. This allows me to
test new applications or procedures on 'my' system without disrupting 'my'
system. When I converted from Windows 2000 SBS, I ran Windows SBS 2003 in a
separate partition for several weeks while I was learning about it.
Eventually, when I was happy with it, I switched to SBS 2003 full time. My
largest customer has 750 computers of which I take care of 75. I have had a
total of 5 hours downtime on their serves since 1999. While my methods may
not be conventional, my customers are happy. I use my system as a test bed
so that when I go on site my customers have no surprises.
My engineering/manufacturing company (my core business) uses project
management, mrp, accounting and cad software, all of which have server
components. When a new update or software package comes out, I need to test
it first. That's why I use the separate OS partitions.
Thanks, MikeMc
PS: The server has now been rebuilt with a clean install of SBS 2003 Premium
without SP1. I may try an upgrade again tomorrow.
