If you have issues with your box, applying a service pack isn't the answer.
Is that protector supported on SP1?
Also how much of a production system is this? I never put a server os "on a separate partition" that's more beta activity.
Personally I always use Trend's script option for installs that is always 100% perfect.
If you had Trend did you either stop iisadmin or trend before instlal? Mine also got stuck on this step [see the sp1 document on www.smallbizserver.net and all of this has been documented.

I have had SBS 2003 Premium installed on my server since it came out. It has generally work fine without any problems. About a week ago I noticed that I could no longer use OWA. I would get a 401 error. If I ran the 'Connect to the Internet' wizard, the Firewall setup would error out. When I posted to the newsgroup, no one offered any solutions.
I decided to reinstall SBS 2003 Premium with SP1 on a separate partition. I use V2i Protector and I made incremental 'images' as I rebuilt the system (i.e. base windows install, base + SBS - ISA 2000, base + SBS + SP1, base + SBS + SP1 + ISA 2004). This all when fine with only one problem. My SBS server has 19 hard drives if you count the 9 that are in a Firewire case beside the server. When the base Windows was installed I had to remap most of the drives including the CDROM. When the installation of SP1 continued it tried to fine its files on drive R which was now F. The dialog box did not have an option to select another location, so I had to cancel. I restored the previous image, edited the registry for the installation source, and started over.
Once the SBS SP1 system was installed and Windows Updates where applied, I proceeded to install applications. First was V2I Protector which failed on reboot; GEARSecurity error- this was working on pre-SP1. Next was Trend Micro CSM. The install when ok, but when I tired to do a remote install to a client it would not accept the password; "The administrator does not have administrative rights". I tried several different installs of Trend Micro and the workstation I was building, all using images to backup and try again. Nothing worked.
Next, I decided to try to upgrade the existing SBS installation. I first did a remote install of Trend Micro and everything when fine. During the upgrade, Outlook failed the upgrade, I was not concerned as I use Office 2003 Pro. Next, on the installation of ISA 2004, the wizard for internet connection failed at the Firewall and Certificate points. Once the upgrade was complete, the server was isolated from the internet, both in and out. There were a number of errors in the event logs. I tried to do a remote install on the workstation with Trend Micro and it failed again, same as before "The administrator does not have administrative rights". My guess is that this is an ISA 2004 issue.
By Tuesday I need to have my system working again, especially the remote access. Based on what has happened so far, I'm doing a complete reinstall of SBS 2003 Premium with all updates except SP1. I do not believe that this SP1 update was tested on enough different systems based on what I have experienced. When I upgraded my Windows 2003 servers (web and file), I had no problems at all. The SP1 upgrade on a new system when OK, until the addition of third party applications. This is where the beta testing failed.
I will try this upgrade again in the fall, once the bugs have been worked out.
