RE: What is the Besy Way to Deploy Client

Hello Harry,

Thank you for posting to the SBS Newsgroup. Thanks for Allen's input!

Based on my understanding from your post, I think you want to use Ghost to
deploy Win XP client workstation from one Win XP ready client workstation.
If I have misunderstood your concern, please let me know.

Actually, we do not support this method to deploy. Because a unique
security identifier (SID) is used for each installation of Windows XP on a
domain, you cannot use Ghost to deploy many Win XP on client workstations.

You can use Remote Installation Service (RIS) to install Windows XP on
Remote Computers. With RIS you can set up new client computers remotely by
using a RIS network shared folder as the source of the Windows XP
Professional files. You can install operating systems on remote
boot-enabled client computers by connecting the computer to the network,
starting the client computer, booting off a PXE ROM or Remote Boot Disk,
and logging on with a valid user account. This document outlines the steps
necessary to install, configure, and use Remote Installation Services (RIS).

on Remote Computers

(Although it is for Windows 2000, it will work on Windows XP)

Alternative, you can use Microsoft Systems Management Server 2.0 to Deploy
Microsoft Windows XP, for detailed information, please see:

Using Microsoft Systems Management Server 2.0 to Deploy Microsoft Windows
XP and Microsoft Windows Server 2003

Hope this information helps. If any thing is unclear or you need any
further assistance, welcome to post back. I am glad to be of assistance.

Best regards,

Brandy Nee
