Hello Richard,
Thank you for posting to the SBS Newsgroup.
Before we go any further, I need to confirm two things with you:
1. You mentioned in the post "now the SMTP server to my ISP now refuses to
send emails", can you explain it more detailed, please?
2. Does this issue happen to all outbound emails? If yes, it could be the
issue mentioned by TimeTraveller. It can occur if the ISP's email server
begins to ask for credentials for security reasons or if the password is
changed. You need to contact your ISP to know the correct authentication
method and use configure the information in your SmallBusiness SMTP
Connector. To do so, please see:
1) On the Server, click Start, Programs, Microsoft Exchange, and System
Manager.
2) In the Exchange System Manager, expand to
Yourserver(Exchange)\Connectors.
3) Right click SmallBusiness SMTP connector, go to Properties, Advanced tab.
4) Click Outbound Security tab.
5) If you select Anonymous access, then no user name or password required
when emails are sent to the ISP.
6) If you select Basic authentication, then click Modify, make sure that
your use name and password match with the ISP authentication.
For increased security, TLS encryption is used with basic authentication by
checking the "TLS encryption" box.
If there is anything unclear or you need any further assistance, I welcome
you to post back.
Best regards,
Brandy Nee
