Hi Gary,

Thanks for your post.

>From your description, I understand that you would like to create the
Distribution list without add each person in the list to the contacts. If
I'm off base, please let me know.

Actually, if you want to outside user to send email to the distribution
list, the members in the list can be domain users or contacts in the ADUC..

However, if you want to internal users send email to a distribution list,
the persons in the list are unnecessary to be domain users or contacts. And
you can create that kind of distribution list for internal usage. To do so,
please perform the following steps:

1. Open outlook. Click tools -> address book

2. Click file -> new entry, select new distribution list and select outlook
address book (contacts) to store it. Then click OK.

3. You can fill in a name in the name file for the title of the
distribution list. To add each email address, click add new button, then
you can input the display name and email address for the person. Make sure
you do NOT check on the "Add to contacts" option. Then no individual
contacts will be created for the added person.

Note: If you want to put this distribution list to the public contacts
folder, you can just copy the list to the public contacts folder.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to let me know. I am glad
to be of assistance.

Best regards,

Jerry Zhao (MSFT)
