RE: Change local user name

Hi Jonny,

Thank you for using SBS newsgroup.

Before we start, I would like to confirm your issue first.

1. You have a client PC and a local user account named "Robert" for that
client PC.

2. You have created a domain user account named "Rob" for that user either.

3. You want to change the local user account "Robert" to "Rob".

Am I correct? If I have misunderstood your issue, please let me know.

I am curious why you want to use the local user account in the SBS domain.
Actually, we do not need the local user account, we can log on the domain
or client PC local using the domain account "Rob" even when the client
machine is "offline".(That is called cached mode when you logon domain
while offline.)

For your information:

When you use the connect computer wizard to join the computer to the
domain. The SBS Network Configuration Wizard will begin by asking you to
provide a user name and password of an account that has permissions to join
computers to the domain. (You can also assign more than one user to the
computer.) The assigned users, along with the Domain Admins group, will be
added to the local Administrators security group so that they have the
right to install client software onto the computer.

Meanwhile, any change you make to the local account will not affect the
domain user account. That means whatever you did to the local user account,
it will not "affecting his connection to his SBS domain profile (and
associated exchange mailbox & redirected my documents folder)".

If you have any concern on this thread, I am glad to be of further
assistance. We look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Jerry Zhao (MSFT)
