But to me that's SQL cals/another Server OS/and the SQL license. Get a nice server, and mine is barely pulling a sweat.
I spent my second server money on a TS box rather than SQL server.

well, I felt sharepoint which is heavily used should not be running the sbs box, so we moved to a server2003 box and talks to the sql server box.
as for the monitoring, I like using the server scripting more so than have to use some gui and have and instance of msde, when i could use the seperate sql box if need be to store information/reports.
seems It won't into to much dramma, if done in carefull steps.
thanks,
julian

What exact setting have you done.
If you have customizations they are retained.
Bottom line folks... sooner versus later you need any service pack on a system period. Plan for it.
This is a 5 part install that you can skip over Exchange.
That SBS will be looking for some MSDE instances.
Man you wacked the heck out of this little guy didn't you?

Hello
Sp1 for sbs2003 looks like a nice package but i have concerns as we already have deployed some if its components and don't have a typical bloated sbs2003 box, we have member servers take load of the sbs server etc.(normal stuf )
questions about sbs 2003 sp1
Will sbs sp1 change gpo settings regarding xp sp2 firewall settings ? we don't want this changed as xp sp2 is already rolled out the way we want it.
We have already upgraded exchange2003 to exchange2003 sp1, will the sbs sp1 component care if it finds ex2003 sp1 already installed and leave its configuration alone ? we like how exchange2003 sp1 is currently configured and also have a mail gateway which does some tasks exchange does not need to do, I understand sbs sp1 makes changes to the exchange config.
We don't run Sharepoint and any instancess of MSDE on our sbs server, sharepoint sp1 runs on serpate webserver talking to a seperate sql box, and we don't use the sbs monioring, we use
WMI/WSH/asp web applications/scripting instead (less overhead), will the sbs sp1 compoent care it can not find sharepoint and or MDSE instances on the sbs server ?
We have the premium version of sbs 2003 running ISA 2000 sp2 and would like to upgrade to ISA 2004, this is probably the main reason to roll out sbs 2003 sp1. I noticed
ISA2004 uses the newer WDSE, will it install this for us and import the old ISA config successfully as per ms isa2004 upgrade instructions ?
We don't want to deploy Office sp1 for outlook 2003 as this is alreay taken care off by our own gpo settings & we run office 2003 sp1 across entire site, does sbs sp1 try and assign or automatically script this service pack to clients ?
With the install of windows server 2003 sp1 on sbs2003 (step 1 at ms site), will it try and turn on the windows server firewall on any of the interfaces ? we don't want this behaviour
by default as we use ISA 2000 (plan to also upgrade to ISA2004) and also use additional permiter firewalls.
If planned correctly, can SBS Sp1 be installed vis TS session remotely ?
sorry if the questions are long, but good planning makes for successful deployment,
regards,
Julian (mcp)
