Re: GPO Problem with new SBS 2003 installation

Dear Lesa,

Thank you for your update.
In order to let the GPO takes effect, we only need to recreate it and
restart the computer.
There is nothing else we need to do.
I had discussed this issue with Marie our tech leader.
Regarding this issue, let us try the following steps to check the issue
further:

1. Let's also check to make sure the firewall client is not installed on
the server.

2. Since you indicated that you thought this started with installing that
app on the server,
Please contact the DVM Manager software support team to see if this product
is compatible with Windows 2003 Server/SBS 2003.
Some third party application may replace the kernel files of Windows and
lock the WMI access like this.

3. Verify the clients are pointing to the SBS server for DNS

4. Verify the server's DNS is correctly configured. (pointing to itself)

5. Also what is the NIC that you had used on your side?
We had been reported this issue can occur if you had installed the
following NICs on the computer:

- Broadcom Gigabit Adapter
- Intel Gigabit Ethernet PRO Adapter, Intel Pro/1000
- Intel 82544EI-based XT Gigabit Adapter (82540EM chipse)
- Compaq/HP NIC dual interface 10/100/1000 doing teaming (HP NC7170)
- Dell Inspiron laptops using an on-board Broadcom BCM4401 NIC

In this scenario, the NIC cannot correct detect the link state. As a
result, the GPOs cannot applied on the client side. Therefore, to disable
Media Sense for
TCP/IP in Windows can resolve the issue.
To disable the Media Sense, please do the following steps:

a. Open Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
b. Go to the following key in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters

c. Add the following registry value:

Value Name: DisableDHCPMediaSense
Data Type: REG_DWORD -Boolean
Value Data Range: 0, 1 (False, True) Default: 0 (False)

d. Restart computer to let the changes take effect.

Also I would like to have a double check to see if the hotfix do have been
installed correctly or not.
Please download and run the MPSRPT_Alliance.EXE with the following URL on a
the SBS server (Note: Not the client, please run on the SBS server)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=CEBF3C7C-7CA5-408F-
88B7-F9C79B7306C0&displaylang=en
And then send me the report file it had generated.

Please keep me posted on how things go. Have a nice day!

Sincerely,

Lee Li
