RE: SBS2003-Two Unconnected Offices, Mail Hosted on ISP

Hello Phil,

Thank you for posting in the SBS newsgroup.

Also, many thanks for Levent and Matt's input.

According to your description, I understand that you want the East Office's
SBS 2003 Server to retrieve Email from the ISP, which only the mail for the
users in the East Office, and leave the West Office Users's Email. If I
have misunderstood your concern, please don¡¯t hesitate to let me know.

For your environment, your two Office users's Email shared the Same SMTP
Domain Name Space. For example, your Exchange environment accepts incoming
mail from the ISP, looks for a matching recipient in the Exchange
organization, and then forwards the mail to a foreign mail system or to
another Exchange organization.

To resolve it, Please refer to the KB 319759.

319759 How to Configure Exchange to Forward Messages to a Foreign Messaging
System That Shares the Same SMTP Domain Name Space
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=319759

And then, could you confirm the ISP MailHost is individual POP3 Mailbox or
Global POP3 Mailbox?

1. If this is the individual POP3 Mailbox. SBS 2003 POP3 Connector can
retrieve Email only the mail for the users in the East Office, and leave
the West Office Users's Email.

2. If this is the Global POP3 Mailbox. SBS 2003 POP3 Connector may download
all Email from the global mailbox, the useres in the East Office can
normally received Email, if the Email is sended to West Office's users,
Exchange generates a Non-Delivery Report (NDR) to the sender. However you
can disable the NDR and forward the mail which no user recipient or proxy
address defined to West Office's users, but it's not recommended to disable
the NDR if you need NDR function.

Create an SMTP connector that forwards all messages to the foreign
messaging system. To do this, follow these steps:

a. In Exchange System Manager, expand Administrative Groups, expand First
Administrative Group, right-click Connectors, point to New, and then click
SMTP Connector.

b. In the Name box, type a descriptive name for this connector.

c. Click Forward all mail through this connector to the following smart
hosts, and then type the IP address of the remote messaging system inside
square brackets ([]). For example, type: [192.168.1.100]

d. Click Add, click Default SMTP Virtual Server in the SMTP virtual server
instances list, and then click OK.

e. Click the Address Space tab, and then click Add.

f. Click SMTP, and then click OK.

g. In the E-mail domain box, type your e-mail domain. Do not precede the
e-mail domain with the at sign (@). For example, type example.com.

h. Click OK.

i. Click to select the Allow messages to be relayed to these domains check
box, and then click OK.

I hope this helps. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not
hesitate to let me know. I am always happy to be of further assistance.

Best regards,

Nathan Liu (MSFT)
