RE: Password protect screensaver

Hi Mark,

Thank you for posting in SBS newsgroup.

According to your description, I understand that you want implement all
workstations to lock or display a password protected screen saver after a
specified period of inactivity. If this is not your concern, please don't
hesitate to let me know.

For your question, you can implement this via group policy.

1. On the SBS server, open Server Management console, expand Advanced
Management, expand Group Policy Management.

2. Expand Domainname.local, expand Group Policy Objects, then select Small
Business Server Client Computer, right-click it and select Edit.

3. On the Group Policy Object Editor page, select User Configuration /
Administrative Templates / Control Panel / Display.

4. Enable the following Settings:

- Screen Saver (Enable)
- Screen Saver executable name (Enable and type the name of the file that
contains the screen saver, including the .scr, for example: logon.scr)
- Password protect the screen saver (Enable)
- Screen Saver timeout (Enable and type wait time)

5. At workstation, you can logoff then logon or run "gpupdate /force" to
update the group policy.

* Note, please make sure all Windows XP clients are at the SP2 level due to
the following problem:

815424 Screen Saver Is Not Password-Protected When You Apply the "Password
Protect the Screen Saver" Group Policy Setting

I hope this helps. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not

I am always happy to be of further assistance.
