Hi Richard,
Thank you for posting in SBS newsgroup.
>From your description, I know you want to use Dantz Retrospect 7 to create
a Disaster Recovery CD using SBS2003. If I misunderstand you concerns,
please let me know. I will provide some suggestion about it as following:
1. Based on my test, the folder size of i386 in Win2K3 is 487M and that in
SBS 2k3 is 503 M, so it should have only 16 M difference.
2. From the viewpoint of the restore, whatever backup application that we
use, we can perform the following steps to restore the data when performing
a full restoration:
1) Install an OS that can run this backup utility. Note: this OS doesn't
need to be the same as the one that you want to restore. For example, if
you want to use NTBACKUP to restore Win2K3, you can even install a Windows
2000 Professional machine and then run NTBACKUP to perform a full
restoration.
2) Run the backup utility to perform a full restoration.
So, you do not need to use SBS 2003 Setup CD to build a temporary OS.
3. Please do not remove the files from i386 folder since you may not able
to build a temporarily OS if you do that.
4. Since we do not have any resource of Dantz Retrospect, please contact
support of Dantz Retrospect 7 for the assistance if you have any further
questions.
Hope the information help. Thanks for your understanding.
Best regards,
Crina Li (MSFT)

| We use Dantz Retrospect 7 for SBS and one of the neat features is that it
can create a Disaster Recovery CD that will install a temporary OS and then
allow you to use the backup tapes/files to recreate your server. It does
this by copying the OS files from the i386 folder from the installation
disk together with backup set files, and uses the product ID code to
semi-automate the process. This CD is created on a weekly basis after a
full system backup. All these files used to fit on a CD when used under
SBS2000.
| However, the i386 folder on the SBS2003 installation disk contains a lot
more than in the standard W2k3 folder and now will not fit onto a CD.
| Does anyone know which files can be removed from the i386 folder on the
SBS2003 installation CD, that will still allow for effectively a temporary
W2k3 installation using the SBS product ID, and will end up at about 360MB
in total?
| Many thanks,
| Richard
