Best VPN approach for Ulti Location SBS 2003 Network: PPTP or Router End Point

We are doing an SBS 2003 network with a HQ location and several
sublocations each containing anywhere from 1 to 10 PCs.
We are trying to decide wether to establish a VPN using Hardware
Router IpSec "end point" VPNs or just use the software VPNs available
in SBS 2003 - PPTPor L2TP.
If we use the router approach, we are a little confused about DHCP. We
think we would like the SBS server to be the only DHCP server, but are
not sure if the routers will allow the clients and server to pass the
necessary DHCP info back and forth.
As an alternative, we think we can allow the routers to issue DHCP
addresses to their respective LAN segments using the SBS server
address as the DNS and Gateway entries.
Frankly, I would preferr to use the MS VPN but am freaked out by all
the anomolies I have read about in these newsgroups and my own
personal experiences. So I think the router approach may be cleaner.
If anybody has any idea of which approach is better, I would certainly
appreciate it.
