Server upgrade gone wrong

I had an inplace SBS2K upgrade to SBS2K3 this weekend. Prior to this upgrade
the server ran fine, had no problems what so ever and looked like a classic
no-brainer upgrade. Did everything by the book but to get to why I am
posting, let's just say that I ended up wiping out the server and starting
with a fresh install, 22 hours later and still need to go back in the
morning. (hey it is already morning).

I got the server all done and restored all the data. All I have left is the
workstations to finish up after I get a little bit of sleep. I named the
domain exactly the same but I know that it doesn't matter when you are
talking about domain SIDs. I realize that I will have to join all
workstations to a workgroup and re-add them to the newly created domain
regardless if the name is the same.

My issue is with the profiles on the workstations and wondering if anybody
has had to deal with this in real life?
Here is my plan:
1. Join workstation to workgroup
2. Login as local administrator.
3. Rename the existing users profile folder under Documents and Settings.
4. Logoff and Login as the user so a new profile with their username is
create.
5. Logoff and Login as administrator and delete the new profile that was
just created and rename the old one back, basically replacing the new one
since the folder name will be the same.
6. Login as the user and make sure they are back like they were.

Is this a sound plan? Is there a better way to do it?
Hopefully when I wake up...someone will have seen this and given their
opinion. :-)
Good night,
