Hello Carlos,
Thank you for posting back to the SBS Newsgroup.
I understand that you have Windows 98 SE client machine, and want to let
them join into the SBS 2K3 domain. If I have misunderstood your concern,
please let me know.
Actually Windows 98 is not fully supported to become a "client" in SBS
2003. We cannot see those Windows 98 clients in the "SBScomputers" OU and
Windows 98 has a lot of limitation such as "cannot apply Group Policy",
etc. Also, the "Connect computers" function
http://servername/connectcomputer is not available for Windows 98, so you
need to manually add the Windows 98 client to the domain. Also, you cannot
create a computer account for Windows 98 computer.
1. To join a Windows 98 client into the SBS domain:
a. Make sure WINS is configured properly on your network.
b. Open the Control Panel/Network/Configuration Tab
c. Highlight Client for Microsoft Networks
d. Click the Properties button
e. Checkmark the Logon to Windows NT Domain box and fill out the domain
name.
2. To establish Internet connectivity on Windows 98 client:
a. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then
double-click Internet Options.
b. On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.
c. In the Address box, type the name of the proxy server. In the Port box,
type the port for the proxy server for the Windows Small Business Server
network.
d. If you do not know the name of the new proxy server or if you are not
using a proxy server, clear the Use a proxy server check box, click OK, and
then click OK again.
e. If you have Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server
installed, double-click WSP Client or Firewall Client.
f. In the Use this ISA Server box, type the name of the proxy server for
the Windows Small Business Server network.
g. If you do not know the name of the new proxy server or you are not using
a proxy server, clear the Enable WinSock Proxy Client or Enable Firewall
Client check box, and then click OK.
h. Restart the computer.
3. For more detail information about these, you can refer to this topic "To
install applications on client computers running earlier versions of
Windows" in Help and Support Center.
[Note]: Outlook 2003 will not run on Windows 95/98/ME or Windows NT. The
Windows 98 clients cannot run a Remote Network Configuration Wizard or
connect to SharePoint. To enjoy all SBS 2003''s benefits, we recommend that
you upgrade to Windows 2000 or Windows XP (to connect to Remote Desktop or
connect Outlook to Exchange server over the Internet, you should upgrade to
Windows XP).
You may need to complete the following to allow Windows 98 clients to
connect to SBS server:
a. Install the latest version of the DS Client onto the Windows 98
workstation.
323455 Directory Services Client Update for Windows 98
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;323455
b. Check the domain controller default policy and change the following
under:
Computer configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local
Policies\Security Settings:
A. Microsoft network server\Digitally sign communications (always) enabled
- changed to disabled.
B. Domain Member: Digitally encrypt or sign secure channel data (always) -
set to disabled.
C. Network Security: Lan Manager Authentication level - Changed from "Send
NTLM response only" to "Send LM & NTLM responses".

4. If you cannot manually let Windows 98 SE join into the SBS domain, what
are the exact symptoms? Also, please run "eventvwr" on Windows 98 SE client
and SBS 2K3 server, paste me the full error content.
Hope this information helps. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Best regards,
Brandy Nee
