That confirmed my suspicions.

My idea was to upgrade the hardware and install a proper server OS.

XP is only used as a file server, no users on it.

The company is expanding, buying other companies out and incorporating the
services, therefore there will be an expansion in the staff and IT resources.

If I get my new server, I would want to link the other companies to it, it
would be the DC. Another location has SBS 2000 which looks good and works
well, though the hardware is dated. I would also like to upgrade that
hardware and migrate the domain and services to the new machine. I will look
at www.sbsmigration.com
for solutions.
