I tend to do things like this on a friday night, with a lan game of UT going
on. This way you can backup the server, make changes, restart - then test
without infuriating users. I've not had a problem doing this before - but
IIRC it takes about 15 minutes to populate AD with the new settings before
it has an effect on the client.
If you're changing it globally in the ESM then simply closing the ESM will
commit the changes, but if you're changing it on a per user basis (i.e.
you're the admin - you don't have any restrictions, and the CEO likes to
keep all his kids photos in his mailbox) that'll takle a while to replicate
