changing exchange database location item

Hi.
I'm about to change our exchange database store to a different partition to
clear space up on the C partition.
I'm going into the store, click on properties, click on the database tab and
click on the browse button to change the location. I'm not going to change
the name of the store, just direct it to a new location.
Our store is only 3 gigs or so, but it's three gigs I need to clear up.
Does it totally rebuild it? Does it copy it to the other partition?
I assume we can't use email during this time? What's the time investment?
Would it only take an hour or so? (it's on a Proliant ML350 with 1.5 gig ram
and a mirrored 36.4 GB ULTRA320 SCSI)
Basically, am I on the right track here?
Thanks.
Bryce.
