Hi DS,
Thanks for using this public newsgroup. Marina thanks for valuable updates.
According to your description, I understand that you encountered a problem
when set up incoming VPN connection on SBS 2003. If this is not your
concerns, please let me know.
As Marina explained, protocol number 47 and 1723 port needed to be open on
the router when use VPN. Actually, since the router is configured in NAT
mode, you need to manually configure the router to redirect the following
incoming port requests to the internal SBS server, through it is not
related with RWW but it will impact other features of SBS 2003:
TCP 25 This port is used for incoming SMTP traffic. If this port
is not enabled, you will be unable to receive external e-mails.
TCP 110 This port is used for POP3 mail clients. This port should be
opened when the POP3 service is enabled in the SBS 2003 server.
TCP 443 SSL
TCP 444 Companyweb SSL
TCP 4125 Remote Web Workplace
TCP 3389 Terminal services
TCP 1723 PPTP VPN connection
Please follow the steps below to configure your VPN connections:
1. Run the CEICW, and make sure Virtual Private Networking (VPN) is
selected in the Services Configuration page. Ensure "Remote Web Workplace"
is selected in the Web Services Configuration page.
Important The fully qualified domain name that you type in the "Web server
name" box in the Web Server Certificate page must be the same name that you
use to connect to the Web site from the Internet. For example, if the URL
that you use to connect to your OWA site is
https://mail.contoso.com/exchange, type "mail.contoso.com" (without the
quotation marks) in the "Web server name" box.
2. Run Remote Access Wizard in Server Management\Internet and
E-mail\Configure Remote Access, and select VPN access in the Remote Access
Method page. After finishing this wizard, RRAS is configured to allow
inbound VPN access, and it can assign IP addresses to the VPN clients by
using DHCP.
