Hi Charles,
Here is what I have from the logs:
The server only restarts when trying to start SQL after a manual stop/start
of the service. The events that were logged into the Application Event Log
when I manually start SQL:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Application Error

Description:

Event Category: None
Event ID: 1015
Date: 3/19/2005
Time: 2:59:20 PM
User: N/A
Computer: SBS
Description:
A critical system process, C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe, failed with status
code c0000354. The machine must now be restarted.
and from the System Log:
Event Type: Information
Event Source: USER32
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1074
Date: 3/19/2005
Time: 2:59:25 PM
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: SBS
Description:
The process winlogon.exe has initiated the restart of computer SBS on behalf
of user for the following reason: No title for this reason could be found

Shutdown Type: restart
Comment: The system process 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe' terminated
unexpectedly with status code -1073740972. The system will now shut down
and restart.

It does reboot A-ok, and I did stumble on this tech note but SBS 2003 was
not listed as one of the problem products:
