Hi Jon,
Thank you for posting in SBS newsgroup.
To confirm the situation, I suggest that we check the following settings:
1. Make sure these 2 folders are not monitored by the Anti-virus
application. See:
822158 Virus scanning recommendations on a Windows 2000 or on a Windows
Server
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=822158
2. Is the permission setting on the folders D:\WINDOWS\SYSVOL\sysvol\-my
domain- and D:\WINDOWS\SYSVOL\staging areas\-my domain- correct? Please
right click the folder, click Properties, click Security Tab, click
Advanced button, and then check it. The following is the default NTFS
permission Security setting:
Administrators Full Control
Authenticated Users Read & Execute, List Folder Contents and Read
CREATOR OWNER Full Control
Server Operators Read & Execute, List Folder Contents and Read
SYSTEM Full Control
3. Is the logged on user a member of the Domain Admins security group?
4. Let us check if the directory or the file system is corrupted. To do
that, please run "chkdsk /f d:" (without the quotation marks) on the SBS to
check the partition D. You may need to reboot the machine.
If the file permission is correct and Chkdsk cannot find any problems but
the issue still exists, please restore the data of these 2 folders from the
previous backed up media.
I'm looking forward to your reply.
Best regards,
Crina Li (MSFT)

| I have SBS backp set to run every night at 11:00 PM. Every night since
it
| has been running, I get the following error in my log:
|
| Error: Could not access portions of directory D:\WINDOWS\SYSVOL\staging
| areas\-my domain-.
| You may not have permission to open the file, or the directory may be
| missing or damaged.
| Please contact the owner or administrator.
|
|
| Error: Could not access portions of directory
D:\WINDOWS\SYSVOL\sysvol\-my
| domain-.
| You may not have permission to open the file, or the directory may be
| missing or damaged.
| Please contact the owner or administrator.
|
|
| (-my domain- is obviously substituted for the real domain name)
|
| If I try to access the two directories using Explorer, I get an error
saying
| that the directory is not accessible, because the device is not ready.
|
| I've tried enabling shadow copies on the directory, but this has not made
a
| difference.
|
| The two directories have a size of 0 bytes. Should I just exclude them
from
| the backup?
|
| Thanks in advance.
|
| Jon
