Hi Greg,

Thanks for your posting!

>From the description, I understand that your issue is that Folders/Files
are set READ ONLY after migrating from NT4 /SBS 4.5. If I'm off base on
that, let me know.

First of all, please check if your issue is the case in the following KB:
The Default Permissions for Home Folders in Windows 2000 and Windows 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=817009

For your information:

816313 HOW TO: Assign a Home Folder to a User
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=816313

If this is not the problem, I would like to recommend you the following
action plan
:
1. Please remove the Read Only attribute and test if the issue still
happens:

Some files may be marked as read-only if they are edited by other users
during the file copying process. In Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP, we
can only use the attrib command to view or change the Read-only attribute
of the files.

It is recommended that you use the command to see if any folders/files are
set as Read Only. Use "Attrib -r <file/folder name>" (without quotes) to
remove the Read Only attribute. Then have the users to try to access their
Home folders again. For more information, please refer to:

326549 You Cannot View or Change the Read-Only or System Attribute of
Folders
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=326549

2. If the users still experience the Read Only error, it can be caused by
other factors. For example, it can be caused by incompatible backup
programs running on the server, or there are problems negotiating SMB
signing between the client and the server. For more information, please see:

If you have any concern on this thread, I am glad to be of further
assistance. We look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Jerry Zhao (MSFT)
