Hi,

Thank you for your post.

>From the description, I understand that the Veritas Backup program cannot
back up the Exchange mailboxes. If I am off base, please let me know.

Please note that we recommend our users using the Windows Backup Utility to
perform a Backup of Exchange Server, as Veritas Backup is third party
program and we make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this
product's performance or reliability. May I suggest you also contact
Veritas for this backup issue?

Of course I would like to give you some plans to see resolve this issue:

Method I. Use Exmerge to export the data from the mailbox into .pst file.
Recreate the user's mailbox and then use Exmerge the data back into the
mailbox:

1. Download ExMerge from:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=429163ec-dcdf-47dc-
96da-1c12d67327d5&displaylang=en

2. Start the ExMerge wizard. On the Procedure Selection page, click Extract
or Import (Two Step Procedure) , and then click Next.

3. On the Two Step Procedure page, click Step 1, and then click Next.

4. On the Source Server page, type the name of the server under Microsoft
Exchange Server Name, and then click Options.

5. On the Source Server page, click Options.

6. On the Data Selection Criteria page, click User messages and folders on
the Data tab.

7. On the Import Procedure tab, click Archive data to target store.

This option copies the e-mail messages to .pst files, and then deletes the
e-mail messages from the source mailboxes.

8. When you receive the warning message, click Yes. The Source Server page
reappears.

9. On the Source Server page, click Options.

10. On the Message Details tab, do one of the following:
a. Type the subject of the e-mail message, and then click Add. Select the
search method that you want to use in the Subject string compare criteria
drop-down list, and then click OK.
b. Type the name of the attachment, and then click Add. Select the search
method that you want to use in the Subject string compare criteria
drop-down list, and then click OK.

11. On the Source Server page, click Next.

12. On the Mailbox Selection page, select this particular mailbox (katie)
from which to extract the e-mail message, and then click Next.

13. In the Default locale drop-down list, select the appropriate language,
and then click Next.

14. On the Target Directory page, if you want to change the location of the
pst files, click Change Folder. Otherwise, click Next.

15. On the Save Settings page, click Next to start the extraction process.

16. After the extraction process is complete, open this mailboxes to make
sure that the message is removed.

NOTE: As a safety precaution, ExMerge does not delete messages from the
System Attendant mailbox. You must manually delete these messages.

17. After you determine that the message is removed from all mailboxes,
delete the .pst files in the C:\Exmergedata folder.
18. After this if you perform the backup job using NTbackup or SBSbackup,
if any problem existed?

For detailed steps using NTbackup, please refer to the following KB
articles:

258243 How to Back Up and Restore an Exchange Computer by Using the Windows
Backup Program
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=258243

If the problem still existed, this behavior can indicate that the exchange
mailbox was corrupted. In order to isolate the problem, I suggest you check
the event view to see if there is any error message related with the
exchange. If so please paste them to the public newsgroup.

I appreciate your taking the time to perform tests, if you have any issues,
please let me know. I am glad to be further assistance.

Best regards,
