Hi Jon,
Thank you for your reply.
Based on the events, POP3 Connector successfully downloaded the message and
delivered it to the Exchange Queues. The problem should be with the SMTP
service or its queues. Let's enable the SMTP logging and message tracking
to see why the email goes to the badmail folder:
1. Enable SMTP logging:
1). Open the properties page of the Default SMTP Vitual Server in Exchange
System Manager.
2). On the General tab, check the "Enable logging" box.
3). Click Properties, click the Advanced tab and check all the boxes on the
list.
4). Click OK twice.
5). Stop and restart the SMTP virtual server.
6). Try reproducing the issue.
7). Stop the SMTP virtual server.
8). Go to the C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\SMTPSVC1 folder and upload the
file to the thread (I suggest you hide your public IPs shown in the log).
2. Enable the Message Tracking logs:
You may try the steps in the following KB articles:
823864 Improved Message Tracking Features in Exchange Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=823864
821910 How to troubleshoot for Exchange Server 2003 transport issues

After performing the above steps, please let me know the result. Thanks
again.
Best regards,
Crina Li (MSFT)

| I tried specifying a different Exchange mailbox but had exactly the same
| problem. I then set POP3 logging level to maximum, cleared the event log,
| sent another mail to dummy@domain.com and hit the Retrieve Now button on
the
| POP3 connector manager Scheduling tab. Afterwards, there were a number of
| entries in the event log which I've included below but no errors. The 4th
| event (EventID 1050) is probably the most relevant. Again the message did
| NOT appear in the specified Exchange mailbox, the sender received an
| undeliverable notification and three more files appeared in the
c:\program
| files\exchgsvr\mailroot\vsi 1\badmail folder. :-(
