Exch IS doubled in size overnight

Suddenly my clients SBS backups took ~5 hrs to run compared to ~3 hrs before.
When examining the logs I discovered that the IS\First Storage Group had
increased to ~19 GB compared to ~9GB the day before. But the physical
databasefiles only add up to ~3GB alltogether. None of the users' mailboxes
have grown particulary.

Any ideas on what causes this growth and how to fix it would be deeply
appreciated since we're running out of tape space and since something
obviously isn't in order.
