Hello there,
Thank you for posting to SBS newsgroup.
SBS 2003 has built-in feature to support blocking/removing unsafe email
attachments by configure CEICW. There is "Remove E-mail Attachments" when
you running CEICW, select this check box to remove specified e-mail
attachments from SMTP-based e-mail (e-mail that is received by Exchange
server) from the Internet. This includes POP3 e-mail delivered by the
Microsoft Connector for POP3 Mailboxes. It does not include e-mail
attachments sent between two client computers on the local network.
This feature works no matter you use OWA or Outlook to check emails as the
emails are already filtered by this feature when you use OWA or Outlook to
check them.
You can also install Message Screen on your SBS server and use it with ISA
SMTP Filter to block the attachments. For more information, please take a
look at the following documents:
315132 HOW TO: Configure SMTP Message Screener in ISA Server 2000
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=315132
http://www.isaserver.org/tutorials/Configuring_the_SMTP_Message_Screener.htm
l
However both the CEICW "blocking unsafe attachments" feature and the
Messenger Screener are basic and it can only filter the incoming
attachments. If you also want to block the outbound unsafe attachments, you
will have to use third party solutions.
Hope this information will help you. If you need any assistance please do
not hesitate to ask. I am glad to be working with you again.
Best regards,
Brandy Nee
