Hi Paul,

Thank you for posting in SBS newsgroup.

Based on the information you provided, this is a Windows XP issue. If you
would, please post this question in the
microsoft.public.windowsxp.work_remotely newsgroup. The reason why we
recommend posting appropriately is you will get the most qualified pool of
respondents, and other partners who read the newsgroups regularly can
either share their knowledge or learn from your interaction with us.

In addition, you may need to check the following settings:

On the remote computer, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, and then right-click My Computer.
2. On the shortcut menu that appears, click Properties.
3. Click the Remote tab, and then click to select the "Allow users to
connect remotely to this computer" check box.
4. When you are prompted to confirm this change, click OK.
5. Click Select Remote Users, and then click Add to specify additional user
accounts to be granted remote access.

NOTE: Administrators are automatically granted remote access privileges.

6. When you are finished adding user accounts, click OK. Make sure that the
account that is being added does actually exist on the remote computer. If
the account does not exist on the remote computer, create it.
7. Click OK, and then click OK again.

 Best regards,

Crina Li (MSFT)

| Apologies if this is the wrong forum.
| I have an XP workstation with remote desktop access enabled. Until
recently
| everything was ok, until the user reported that there were a couple of
error
| messages and then they were kicked out of the session. Now I cannot
connect
| to the workstation even over the LAN. All the settings are ok, the
services
| are running (compared to a working machine) I have used netstat -an| find
and
| it seems that the machine is not listening on the allocated port 4005, or
any
| port such as 3389.
| Can the remote desktop host service component be reinstalled??
|
| many thanks for you time
