We recently discovered that the GPO for Folder Redirection has changed so
that the "My Documents" have been redirected to a share on the Small Business
Server. The problem is that I have not been able to find out how this
changed or how to set it back to it's original setting ("not configured").
I've used the "Group Policy Object Editor" and browsed to the following key:
User Configuration\Windows Settings\Folder Redirection\My Documents
I right-clicked on "My Documents" and chose properties. At first this was
set to "Not Configured" even though the report clearly showed that it was
redirected to the \\Server\Users share. So I manually set the Setting to
"Basic - Redirect everyone's folder to the same location" and specified the
Target folder location to be "Redirect to the local userprofile location". I
thought this would fix the problem but the next day when I checked the
setting, the Target folder location was back to "Create a folder for each
user under the root path" and this was pointed to the \\Server\Users share.
I've checked the event logs and sadly, there were only one day's events in
the security log (4MB) so I can't see it. The "Group Policy Managment" says
when the change was made but the only admin who was connected to the server
at the moment didn't change it (at least not through the GPO Editor).
Is there any other area where the policies are defined (other than the
registry) or are there any Microsoft programs or updates that would change
this (probably not)? Any thoughts on how to trouble shoot this and prevent
it from happening again? How can I log any attempts (successful or failed)
to modify the GPO? Finally, as a side note, is there a simple way to see who
logged into the system (via RDP or at the console) to control the server?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
