Feel free to do either. The policy they don't recommend you updating is the
default domain policy. In best practices world, it would be wise to add a
new policy at the same level. This way if something does go awry, you can
simply delete the policy and be back to a known-good configuration. Both
policies would both get applied in the order specified (on the right hand
side, I believe it's called "Link Order").
