Hi,

Thanks for posting here!

Generally, if we want to send internet e-mail with the internal exchange
mail account, the following requirement must be satisfied:
1. We need an e-mail domain
2. The server where the exchange installed on must have a Public Static IP
address
3. We must apply for a PTR record of our domain name
4. We need to register FQDN from Internet service provider
So, please make sure that you have met the above requirements.

Please check if the issue in the following KB is your case:
Receiving 5.5.0 non-delivery reports only from specific domains in Exchange
2000 Server, in Exchange Server 2003, and in Small Business Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;300171
Please help me collect the following information to isolate the issue:

1. Are those failed sent mails external e-mails?

2. Can you send e-mails internally?

3. Does this issue always occur for all the external recipients? (Have you
ever successfully sent out e-mails?)

4. Are you using POP3 Connector to collect incoming emails from your ISP's
mail server?

5. Are there any event logs related to this issue?

6. Check firewall, anti-virus software, anti-spam software configuration if
they exist. Disable them and see how things go from there.

7. Make sure that you have enabled forward and reverse DNS on the local
SMTP virtual server.

8. Please let me know if you use "Smart Hosts" or DNS to send outgoing
messages.

9. Use telnet to send email from your Exchange server to the destination
mail server directly to test if it works.
For more information about how to use telnet, refer to the following
Knowledge Base Article:
XFOR: Telnet to Port 25 of IMC to Test IMC Communication:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=153119

10. Use the message tracking feature to track the problematic message. For
additional information, refer to the following Knowledge Base Article:
XADM: Using the Message Tracking Center to Track a Message:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=262162
Note: You need to enable Message Tracking first. To do so:

Open Exchange System Manager, navigate to Servers\ServerName. Right-click
it and choose ''Properties''.
Check ''Enable message tracking'' and ''Enable subject logging and
display'' options.

The message tracking logs that are stored in the following location
C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\servername.log\
Where servername is the name of your server.

If you have any concern on this thread, I am glad to be of further
assistance. We look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Jerry Zhao (MSFT)
